Web site under exciting construction!

Thank you for visiting www.ArtsOnTheGreen.org. We are presently building a more dynamic Web site with the help of our friends and students at New Tech High School. In the meantime, please enjoy our general information listed below, as well as our downloadable PDF registration forms. Look for new and exciting details in the coming weeks!

General Information

Each spring, Arsenal Technical High School produces an extraordinary outdoor festival known as Arts on the Green. This event is a spectacular celebration of the fine arts presented entirely free to the public. Arts on the Green provides eastside urban community organizations, local students, artists and other performance groups the opportunity to showcase talents in the visual arts, voice, instrumental music, dance and drama. Multiple stages, as well as a variety of outdoor artwork displays, community booths and concession stands will be set up on the 76-acre Arsenal Tech campus for all to enjoy.

Why should you get involved?

There are a number of great reasons that you might want to consider this event. I’ve listed a few of those here for your reference:

(1) Arts on the Green reaches a target audience of urban families and students who are regularly underserved in their exposure to fine art, dance, performance, community services and other various non-profit groups.

(2) What once was a small school event, Arts on the Green now provides an opportunity to connect urban families to the community, as well as connecting the community to IPS schools. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing any Tech HS musical performances or visual art, you are missing one of the best kept secrets in Indianapolis. IPS has an exceptionally talented group of young people really changing the face of public schools in our community and demonstrating what uninhibited potential can become.

(3) 2009 will forever more be earmarked as a year of change and connecting the voices of our community. This event is one exercise in fostering that change and community connection. I should mention that, given the glowing review I made about Tech programs above, the department produces these fine ensembles and artists with no funding. Yes, you read this correctly; these students have no funds for materials, music, instruments, costumes or other essentials for their pursuits. All necessary funds are raised entirely by the department and the students themselves. Arts on the Green is one core annual fundraiser.

How do you get involved?

Getting involved is relatively simple and merely involves you filling out the appropriate form. All instructions are included within the PDF documents.

Those wishing to use Arts on the Green as a fundraiser themselves (artists, booster clubs, restaurants, neighborhood groups, etc.) are asked to pay a $25 booth fee. Others wishing to use Arts on the Green primarily as an educational or performance vehicle (community groups, non-profits, instructional artists, schools, performers, etc.) are charged NO FEE to participate. Essentially, if your goal is to make money, we ask for a little up front. If your goal is to attend, educate or inspire, we merely suggest a donation of your choosing and require no funds from you.

We are looking for the following types of participants overall:

* Artists (both for art sales and instructional experiences)
* Performers – Dance, Drama, Music, Voice (both professional and school-based groups)
* Restaurants
* Community Groups
* Neighborhood Organizations (near the Tech campus)
* IPS School Groups (school clubs, booster clubs, etc. for concessions and fee-based activities)
